What is the shelf life of Malibu Rum original?

The shelf life of our Malibu Rum is two years unopened. It is only one year after opening. The shelf life is for best delivery of taste. After exceeding the time the flavor impact will begin to become noticeably less and would not represent the normal excellent quality expected.

  • Please stop putting the date on the neck of the bottle as this can only be viewed when the seal is broken. I purchased a 1 litre bottle last week and opened it this evening. When I drank it I noticed it hadn't got the plesent taste/smell what I love. When I checked out the bottle for the expired date it had the 14/01/2013. Very disappointed.

  • My bottle has no expiration date how can I tell when it expires ?

    les
  • Dear Leslie,

Could you provide us with the lot code number? The lot code is located on the product or label. It is a series of letters and/or numbers ink-jetted on the product in small print (Not the UPC bar code).

    Thank you,
    Best regards,

  • I have just tried to return a bottle to a liquor store in Bonita Springs as the best before date was June 2013 and it tasted strange.
He told me that it wasn't the best before, but a delivery date and that maybe my mixer or glasses were the problem. As a result, he refused to exchange or refund.
    Is he correct?

  • Hi .. just bought a bottle ..no expiration date on neck ..how can I tell .. If it's it's really old ..is it safe to drink?

    greb
  • why do you not tell people how to read the date code? I have been looking all over and can't find any answers other than you asking what the code is. Oplease tell us how to read the code so that when we buy from the store, we can tell if it is out-dated or fresh.

    George
  • Also, I can't find any phone number to call and ask. What is Malibu afraid of?

    George
  • Hi, I have a code on the bottle. L2278M2 / 076 11:22.. What is the expiry date? I can't find it on the bottle.. Is it safe to drink?

    Thank you

  • Can you please reply to customers who cannot find an expiry date on bottles of Malibu, i also have one and planned to use next week, have had it a while so cannot remember when it was purchased, code is..LU27982,is this safe to drink? If the expiry date is on the INSIDE of the lid as other customers have suggested it's a pretty stupid place to have it. I would be grateful if you could provide a speedy reply.. Thanks.

  • I bought a bottle of malibu coconut rum from tesco cambridge fulbourn and it was also expired as i saw the date on the bottle. Disappointed. This seems like a normal occurance on tescos part as many people here have also mentioned that they were sold expired bottles.

    Lisa smith
  • I thought the date was the date it was bottled? Not the expiry date?

    Nicola
  • I just bought a few bottles of Malibu and need them to last until next September as I am starting to stock up for my wedding. There is a date at the bottom of the bottle that says june 2014 - can you tell me if this is the best before date or if it is the date of manufacture?

if they are out of date now, I need to take them back ASAP
    Thanks

  • Hi Deborah,

I understand that the shelf life is roughly 2 years. I am however confused as to what date I am reading on the bottle. There is a date of 06/05/2014 written into the glass at the bottom of the bottle. Is this the date that it was bottled?

    Thanks

    Kim

    Kim
  • Well, my bottle says 4113 1956V. Surely it's not that old, will I get sick? Who thought alcohol could go bad? I guess there is no alcohol in it....oh well.

    Donna
  • David Cowan,

We are looking into your question along with the rest. Would you be able to tell us what size bottle it is that you have?

    Thank you,

    Deborah N Digital Brand Manager
  • is the date on the bottom of a malibu bottle best before or bottled date as have been given a bottle and it says 6/05/2014 Thanks

    Fay Rogers
  • Hi Mark Scholes,

Yes, they are correct. Malibu does not state best before date. Codes are located at the bottom and around the neck. All codes should start with L, but may differ depending on production location.

    Best,

    Deborah N Digital Brand Manager
  • Genene, David Cowan,

Would you be able to send us the size of the bottle and the produced by statement in the back? You can also send a picture of the back of the bottle where the code and importer statement are. We would need this in order to best answer your question.

    Deborah N Digital Brand Manager
  • Hi Greb,

Please provide the code on t3he bottle, it should start with a “L” could be a combo of 6-8 alpha numeric code.

    Thanks,

    Deborah N Digital Brand Manager
  • Hi Jonathan,

The bottle you have is a Spain produced code with date stamp meaning 3 de Oct de 2012. The shelf life of our product is 2 years. If stored properly, it should still be safe to consume.

    Best,

    Deborah N Digital Brand Manager
  • Hi all,

The date at the bottom is the date the glass was manufactured. Please provide us with the correct code which should start with “L”, and is located on bottom of bottle in front side or back side, visible to consumer.

    Thank you,

  • Hi Deborah,
I'm a retailer and selling Malibu 20cl which got 2013/01/09. My question is that is it the best before date or expiry date? We do 35cl and 70cl aswell but they got no date on any of the bottle.

    Sonu singh
  • Sorry, I meant to ask that is it expiry date or manufactured date on it ??

    Sonu singh
  • Trying to figure out when it expired I have no idea when it was open but number is

    L12067H08:22

    nick
  • hi my bottle code is LKGF0421. May I know the manufacturing date?

    thanks

    Jeremy koh
  • I have a 700ml bottle, no idea when I bought it. The code is LKGT2526. Any idea of the best before date for this and if it will be ok to drink now?

    Tony
  • I should also have added, the bottle is unopened. :-)

    Tony
  • hi brought bottle yesterday from tesco date on bottom says 2014 05/06 is this expiry date or date bottled and neck of bottle says 21/01/14 ???

    stevce
  • I am not bying any more of this product, can't check date until I purchase, rediculous!

    Donna
  • I have been informed that the codes can be used to work out the date of the product being bottled as follows

The last number is the year it was bottled
and the other 3 are the day of that year.

    LKGT2526 = 252nd Day of 2006 (20th September 2006)

With this in mind, I would suggest Jeremy's was as follows
    LKGF0421 = 42nd Day of 2001 (11th February 2001)

However I have also been informed from Malibu, that although the product will start to deteriorate in taste after 2 years, it will continue to be safe to drink if it has been stored correctly.

Hope this helps those others that have been waiting for replies.

    Tony
  • Correction to my last post, the 252nd day of 2006 was 9th September, not 20th as worked out by Malibu rep. I take it this was a simple mistake though.

    Tony
  • I have an unopened bottle from the 1970's still sealed, take it this would be no good to drink now? Is it worth keeping or empty it and sell the bottle? Any advice? Or is it worth keeping it sealed?

    adam
  • Hi Tony,

Thanks for sharing your information with the forum. We appreciate your help in getting these questions answered.

    Adam,

We do not recommend consuming this product now. Regarding it's worth, it is probably best you get in touch with an expert that can advise you on this and provide you a proper appraisal. I personally recommend you try to keep it sealed until an expert weighs in.

    Best,
